Free Image Metadata Checker

What this tool does: it checks whether a JPEG, PNG or WebP container includes a recognized EXIF or XMP block. The image stays in your browser. A found block is not proof of camera capture, and a missing block is not evidence that AI generated the image.

Runs locally in your browser

Check an image container

This check reads the selected file in browser memory. It does not upload the image or retain a copy.

How to interpret the result

ResultWhat it meansNext step
Metadata block foundThe container includes recognized EXIF or XMP structure.Use a dedicated metadata reader to inspect values, then verify them against the source.
No block foundNo supported EXIF/XMP container block was detected.Ask for the original file; screenshots and platforms commonly strip metadata.

Privacy and limitations

This focused tool reads at most 20 MB in browser memory and does not upload the selected image. It detects container structure only; it does not display GPS or identity fields, authenticate a camera, validate editing history or classify the pixels.

For a multi-channel result, use the image analysis workspace. For decision guidance, read how to tell if an image is AI-generated.
